The Hawker 800A is the first of the Series 800 manufactured by Hawker Beechcraft. It had its first flight on May 26, 1983.
The Hawker 800A is powered by two Garrett TFE731-5R-1H engines with 4,200 pounds of thrust each. These, however, are less powerful engines than those of the Model 800XP and Model 750, thus resulting in a slower cruise speed of 429 knots. The aircraft will reach its maximum cruise speed of 442 knots at 37,000 feet and long-range speed of 389 knots at service ceiling 41,000 feet. On the other hand, the Model 800A is 600 pounds leaner than the 800XP and burns about 30 gallons of fuel per hour less. It does have a longer range than other aircraft in its class, allowing for flights from New York to Los Angeles or Singapore to Beijing.
Winglets were added to the Hawker 800A to reduce drag and improve aerodynamic efficiency. The aircraft was one of the first to offer an all-digital cockpit; the flight deck features five display screens, High Frequency communications, Ground Proximity Warning System, TCAS II, and dual APS 85 Autopilot. The interior typically seats eight passengers in its club configuration and three-person divan.
Production of the Hawker 800A ended in 1995 after 235 aircraft were built. Today, a 1995 model sells for about $1.05 million.
