The Bombardier Challenger 300 business jet, developed by Bombardier Aerospace, was announced in 1999 and took its maiden flight on August 14, 2001. Originally named the Continental before being renamed in 2002, the Challenger 300 received Canadian type approval on May 31, 2003. It was certified in 2003 and entered commercial service in 2004, with Flexjet being the first to introduce the new aircaft. The Challenger 300 features supercritical wings with a fixed leading-edge and a 27% sweep angle. Its cabin is 39% larger than competing mid-size business jets, such as the Falcon 50 and Citation X. The Bombardier Challenger 300 is powered by two Honeywell HTF 7000 engines with 6,826 pounds of thrust, providing an extended range of 3,065 nautical miles. It can accommodate up to 10 passengers if the lavatory is used as an extra seat, though it is ideally designed to fly eight or nine passengers in comfort. With its impressive range, Challenger 300 allows for direct flights from London to New York and boasts a top speed of over 476 knots. This aircraft set a speed record for its classification in 2004, flying from Carlsbad, California, to Bangor, Maine, in 4 hours and 41 minutes at an average speed of 497 knots. It's avionics suite is based on a Rockwell Collins ProLine 21, featuring four LCDs, an integrated four-tube electronic flight instrumentation system, and a two-tube engine inflight condition monitoring system. Production of the Bombardier Challenger 300 ended in 2014, with a total of 457 aircraft manufactured. Today, 454 Bombardier Challenger 300 jets are in operation, with 4.8% of the fleet currently for sale, typically spending an average of 149 days on the market. North America holds the largest percentage of the jets at 84%, while Europe has an additional 8%. Flexjet operates 32 Bombardier Challenger 300 jets.
