Kansas City International Airport (KMCI) sits 15 miles northwest of downtown Kansas City, Missouri. The field handles significant commercial service (Southwest, American, Delta, United, Allegiant, Frontier, Spirit, JetBlue) and a meaningful flow of business aviation. For Kansas City-area private aviation, KMKC (Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport, 4 miles north of downtown) is the close-in dedicated GA reliever and is the typical broker default for charter movements into the city.

The dominant operational considerations are Plains severe weather (tornado risk in spring), summer thunderstorms with hail risk, and winter ice storms. KMCI makes sense for private aviation primarily for international VIP arrivals and large-cabin charter where the major-airport experience is preferred. For routine Kansas City charter, KMKC is faster and more practical. Ground time to downtown KC is 25–35 minutes via I-29; Power & Light District is 30; the Plaza is 35.

Kansas City International Airport — originally Mid-Continent International Airport and often referred to by locals as KCI — is an international airport in Kansas City, Missouri, located 15 miles (24 km) northwest of Downtown Kansas City in Platte County, Missouri. The airport was opened in 1972 and a new complex in the airport was completed in 2023, replacing the old one. MCI replaced Kansas City Municipal Airport (MKC) in 1972, with all scheduled passenger airline flights moved from MKC to MCI. It serves the Kansas City Metropolitan Area and is the primary passenger airport for much of western Missouri and eastern Kansas.
