Rome-Ciampino Airport (LIRA) sits 9 miles southeast of central Rome and is the principal business-aviation and low-cost commercial airport for the city. Where LIRF (Fiumicino) is the major airline hub, LIRA is the close-in alternative that handles substantial Ryanair / Wizz Air operations alongside one of the highest volumes of business aviation in southern Europe. The field has a long history — it is one of the oldest active airports in the world, opened in 1916 — and remains a structural focal point for the Italian corporate aviation market. The single runway (15/33) is 7,217 feet, accommodating most current business jets without restriction; G650 and Global 7500 operators with maximum payloads occasionally plan ferry flights to or from Fiumicino for heavier uplifts.
