In a groundbreaking announcement on May 18, 2014, Gulfstream unveiled the extended range version of its iconic G650 aircraft, aptly named the Gulfstream G650ER, during the prestigious EBAC exhibition. This enhanced model boasts an impressive capability, flying over 7,500 nautical miles, surpassing the range of the standard G650 by 500 nm, all while cruising at Mach 0.85 or higher. Powered by the same two Rolls-Royce engines, each rated for 16,900 lbs. of thrust, the Gulfstream G650ER ensures exceptional performance and reliability, accommodating up to 19 passengers and two crew members.
Gulfstream takes pride in the superior comfort offered by the G650ER's cabin, renowned for its exceptional soundproofing and ample natural light streaming through its 16 large cabin windows. The aircraft employs a unique pressurization system, which offers the lowest pressurized cabin altitude of any business aircraft, twice as low as commercial airlines, ensuring passengers remain refreshed and comfortable during long-haul journeys.
In April 2019, the Gulfstream G650ER made history by completing the longest non-stop flight ever recorded for a purpose-built business jet, covering an astonishing distance of 8,379 nautical miles from Singapore to Tucson. This remarkable feat underscores the aircraft's exceptional capabilities and endurance.
The G650ER's extended range is achieved through a significant increase in the fuel tank size, allowing for an additional 4,000 lbs. of usable fuel to be stored in its massive wings. An increase in gross weight has allowed the Gulfstream G650ER to retain the original 54,000 lbs. basic operating weight. This upgrade is also available as a retrofit option for standard G650 aircraft, with installation taking approximately two weeks and carrying a price tag of $2 million.
With a fleet of 124 G650ERs worldwide as of 2018, including notable owners like Elon Musk, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, and Jeff Bezos, this aircraft continues to dominate the business aviation sector. Despite its prestigious status, the Gulfstream G650ER offers an efficient choice for global travel, commanding a price tag of approximately $70,500,000 in 2023, with an average hourly operating cost of $3,662.
Furthermore, Gulfstream offers an upgrade to Honeywell's Primus Epic avionics for the G650ER, enhancing both safety and efficiency. This Block 3 avionics upgrade elevates pilot situational awareness with upgraded graphics, synthetic vision display options, and advanced communication systems, ensuring enhanced navigation capabilities for pilots and an unparalleled flying experience for passengers.
As of Q2 2025, the factory list price of the G650ER is $70,500,000.
